Responding to the backlash from players, Greene welcomed the community’s pushback. “I’ve been really heartened to see the community revolt against AI stuff. It’s encouraging to hear gamers say, ‘No — if it’s not created by artists, I don’t want to see it.’ That reaction has been great to witness,” he added, reiterating that he believes PlayerUnknown Productions is “using it in the right way.”

So what does he mean by the “right way”? Greene argues that AI should accelerate world creation, not eliminate artists’ jobs. It’s a notable stance given Krafton — publisher of PUBG and a minority investor in Greene’s studio — has repositioned itself as an “AI first” company. That said, Greene stresses PlayerUnknown Productions operates independently: “As a fully independent studio, our goals are not driven by Krafton’s strategy. While Krafton remains a minority stakeholder, their internal operations have been separate from ours since 2021.”
