Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl will preserve the quirks of the originals

A new trailer for Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl gave fans plenty of new details on the upcoming remake, including how gameplay features like the Pokétch and Poffin cooking will work in the remakes. The trailer also teased mysterious characters like Cheryl and Riley.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is a remake of the original Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, which launched in 2006 for the Nintendo DS. The original version’s features and minigames took advantage of the console’s touch screen; Tuesday’s trailer showed how these will work on the Nintendo Switch.

The Pokétch, an in-game item that added applications like a watch and step counter in the original, will be making a return. In the Nintendo DS versions of the game, the Pokétch appeared on the bottom screen, in this game, we see it pop up and take up a small portion of the top right of the screen.

The Poffin-making minigame returns, too. Players cook up the treats to boost their Pokémon’s stats for the beauty contests. A trailer from a Pokémon Presents in August showed the revamped beauty contests in action.

Tuesday’s new trailer also showed that you will be able to take up to six Pokémon out of their Poké Balls for an adorable romp through the flower-filled gardens of Amity Square in Hearthome City.

This trailer focused more on Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl’s features, and less on their story. However, we did get a reintroduction to a kind woman in the forest named Cheryl, and Riley, a mysterious character who has trained Lucario. The game also showed us a look at the grass-type Gym Leader, Gardenia.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are slated to release Nov. 19 on the Nintendo Switch.
