After debuting the animated Pikmin short “Close to You” earlier this month, Nintendo has returned the spotlight to its diminutive protagonists. On Wednesday, the publisher confirmed that Pikmin 4 will receive a free update in November.
The patch adds a new Photo Mode centered on a Field Camera, letting players capture favorite Pikmin moments, decorate images with stamps and frames, and apply filters. Nintendo also teases that the Field Camera “may even be the key to adding Decor Pikmin to your crew,” which is one of the update’s headline features.
Decor Pikmin, first introduced in the mobile title Pikmin Bloom, wear whimsical accessories — for example, a donut around the waist or a dusting of snow as a hat. Decor Pikmin encountered in Pikmin 4 can be recruited into your squad and transferred back to Pikmin Bloom. In addition, Ice Pikmin from Pikmin 4 will be arriving in Pikmin Bloom as well.

The update also introduces new difficulty options. Relaxed mode reduces enemy aggression — creatures will only strike if provoked and will be easier to defeat — while Fierce mode increases the challenge for players seeking tougher encounters. Both settings can be toggled at any time during a playthrough.
Nintendo did not announce an exact release day, only saying the free update will arrive sometime in November. An updated demo will be published to the Nintendo eShop on the same day.
Pikmin 4 is available on Nintendo Switch and is backward compatible with the Nintendo Switch 2.
