Massé explains that one reason we’ve seen few true rivals to The Sims is that these games are effectively three projects in one: a sophisticated build mode, a highly customizable character creator, and a deep life-simulation system. Combining and balancing all three is a monumental task.
“Across six years of development — beginning with just a couple of people and later growing to an average team of around ten — we’ve had to alternate long development stretches between those three pillars,” Massé adds. “We’re proud of what we’ve built so far, but we need more time to refine the simulation so Paralives delivers a compelling first experience and brings players back for the free updates and expansions we plan to release afterwards.”
