Blizzard has been teasing one thing large for Overwatch that’s purported to kick off on April 11. We now know that is going to be an in-game occasion, however that’s not all.

First, the April 11 occasion – generally referred to by followers because the omnic disaster, or King’s Row rebellion – would be the sport’s first in-universe occasion. Previously, occasions have been seasonal and tied to real-world festivities like the vacations, Chinese New Year and so forth.

“We’ve heard the call that a lot of players want a non-real-world-tied event, meaning they want some sort of set event in the Overwatch world,” sport director Jeff Kaplan instructed SE7EN.WS.

Kaplan additionally confirmed that there’s going to be a playable ingredient to the omnic disaster occasion, although he wouldn’t say if it will present itself in a brand new mode or map. “The event is going to be something – when players see the event and play the event, I think they’ll see that we’ve been listening to their feedback,” Kaplan added.

This is all a part of the developer’s plan to flesh out the sport’s story and lore extra, particularly since this kind of storytelling is Overwatch’s solely manner of increasing on its world with out a correct playable marketing campaign.

“I think they [fans] want to know more about what’s going on between omnics and humans in this world and how did we get there. I think a lot of that will be answered for them.”
