Halo: Campaign Evolved | The Silent Cartographer – 13 Minute Gameplay Demo – YouTube

Griesemer argued on X (formerly Twitter) that he deliberately placed rocks to prevent players from driving the Warthog straight over the Hunters, forcing on-foot combat. He said being able to simply crush obstacles undermines the intended encounters, and he also derided the addition of trees at the WooHoo Jump landing zone as a baffling choice.
In the demo, Master Chief drives a heavily armed Warthog into a fight with two Hunters and dispatches them quickly — a change that can make the original set piece feel less dramatic and accelerate the pacing of the mission.
Griesemer compared the outcome to a remix that skips the build-up and repeats the chorus: it removes the tension that made the moment memorable.
By contrast, Halo co-creator and regular art director Marcus Lehto praised the team working on the remake, saying it’s encouraging to see both new and familiar talent contributing and that the visual explorations look impressive. His remarks are available online.
Halo: Campaign Evolved is promoted as a faithful remake that builds on original code, but Halo Studios has also stated they’re revising certain missions to support four-player online co-op and to remove design quirks from 2001 — particularly in The Library. Whether these subtle changes harm the experience or simply make it different will be clearer once the full release arrives next year.
Halo: Campaign Evolved hands-on: Is this Unreal Engine 5 remake a bizarro-world Combat Evolved or an opportunity to pave the way for the future of Halo?
