David is a brief but unforgettable figure in the story: a cannibalistic leader whose group captures Ellie after Joel kills a member of their tribe. His lieutenant, James, helps oversee the violence and torture, and the pair nearly overpower Ellie before an injured Joel fights back and rescues her.

That confrontation becomes a turning point in Joel and Ellie’s relationship. On the HBO series, Scott Shepherd delivers a chilling portrayal of David, while Troy Baker appears as James.

North closed by praising Naughty Dog’s creative process: “I used to call Naughty Dog, ‘Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory,'” he said. “You don’t understand how it’s made but it’s delicious when you get it.”

12 years after The Last of Us’ ambiguous ending sparked a decade of debate, creator Neil Druckmann has settled it: “Our intent was that they could have made a cure.”
