Nintendo denies contacting Japanese government about generative AI, rejects lobbying claims and vows to continue fighting “infringement of our intellectual property”

Earlier this year, former Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser stopped short of ruling out the use of generative AI in development, but he emphasised that what makes Nintendo’s games special is the creativity of its developers — their artistic skill and understanding of play — and that human insight will always be central to how the company designs and builds games.

That perspective echoes comments from Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa last year, when he acknowledged generative AI’s creative potential while warning it also raises intellectual-property concerns.
