Why Does Arabella Call Withers 'Bone Man'?

Watch On

Arabella quips, “‘Withers’? I won’t remember that — I’m calling you ‘Bone Man,'” prompting an exasperated, but affectionate reaction from Withers. She also teases that he’s “funny” and “like my grandpa when he didn’t get his nap.” Withers tolerates the teasing with patient warmth, which makes the later, tragic moment—when he must tell her about her parents—feel more abrupt. That tonal shift might explain why the developers removed the scene; the transition from lighthearted teasing to heartbreak is fairly jarring.

Whether the sequence was intentionally excised for pacing and tone, or left inaccessible by a scripting oversight, it’s welcome to finally glimpse a softer side of the game’s stoic undead steward.

“I counted every box in Baldur’s Gate 3”: The real Baldur’s Gate 3 completionist is the person who dug through the RPG’s code to find every last crate, chest, and barrel.
