Marathon | Gameplay Reveal Trailer – YouTube

Sniper rifles, shotguns, and assault rifles each see practical use in the footage, performing in ways you’d expect from an extraction shooter. Marathon’s vivid, colorful art style helps the weapons stand out, and the interface is restrained and unobtrusive. Keep in mind these elements remain under active development and could be adjusted in future builds.
Bungie has been running these test sessions under strict NDAs that prohibit participants from discussing what they experience, which is why this volume of leaked gameplay is particularly notable. The studio announced Marathon in 2023, though work on the project began earlier, and the title has already undergone significant internal upheaval, including a Sony acquisition, layoffs, and restructuring.
A planned release in September was removed and the launch is now open-ended; Sony has said it expects the game to ship before March 31, 2026. Whether that timeframe holds is unclear, but another playtest is scheduled for December. Development on Marathon continues to be protracted — fittingly, the finish line may still be some distance away.
“The Bungie team is fantastic”: Academy Award–winning artist behind Marathon cinematic says the shooter’s stolen art “was genuinely a mistake,” and “blown out of proportion.”
