Mad Head Games’ official site lists an additional “unannounced AAA game based on a famous and beloved IP,” which would fit a KOTOR remake. There have also been recent rumblings about an Old Republic-themed project, and the Game Awards on December 11 has been suggested as an ideal setting for the remake to reappear.

Any attention on the sequel would be welcome: Knights of the Old Republic II originally shipped in 2004 with an ending that many players found abrupt and incomplete. Shortly after release, modders uncovered assets in the game files indicating significant ending content and other sequences had been removed — reportedly due to time pressures at developer Obsidian.

Over time, the community produced the Restored Content Modification (RCM), a fan-made patch that restores much of the cut material. When Aspyr published a KOTOR II remaster for Nintendo Switch in 2022, it initially planned to offer the RCM as DLC, enabling console players to experience that restored content for the first time; that DLC was later canceled, which led to a false advertising lawsuit against Aspyr.

The Game File coverage concentrates on the DLC dispute, and its findings suggest the downloadable content was shelved after Disney’s legal team raised concerns about securing clear rights to the modders’ contributions.

Despite setbacks affecting the KOTOR 1 remake, Reilly said the project “is still technically on the road map,” and that the remake shouldn’t face the same legal hurdles that prevented the RCM DLC. He added that the intention was to incorporate the Star Wars-related content from the RCM into the Juliet remake — a plan many fans are hoping continues to move forward.

These are the best Star Wars games you can play right now.
