Larian Denies Plans for Divinity: Original Sin 3 as New Trademarks Hint at a Divinity Reveal at The Game Awards

Divinity: Original Sin 2 — skeleton mage curling its fingers

Larian Studios — the developer behind Baldur’s Gate 3 — appears to have a busy day ahead. Ahead of The Game Awards, the PlayStation Store briefly listed a current‑generation upgrade for Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition, and newly filed European trademarks hint at a larger Divinity announcement that visually matches the mysterious statue Geoff Keighley has placed in the Mojave Desert.

Twitter account PlayStation Game Size flagged a PS5‑native version of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition earlier today. Larian’s head of publishing, Michael Douse, responded on Twitter with a wry, “Hey we weren’t meant to announce that yet.” See his post here.

European Union Intellectual Property Office filings 019288427, 019288404, and 019288420 were submitted Tuesday under representative ID 26588. The filings are handled by IHDE & PARTNER RECHTSANWÄLTE — a German law firm that, according to its English site, specializes in advising technology and media companies and has experience with “Computer & Video Games.” Their site notes prior work on Larian trademarks, and the firm previously managed other European filings for Divinity‑related marks. Previous example, more here.

The filing — like the other two — is registered in, among other classes, Class 9: “Computer game programs; video game software; computer and video game software for use on wireless devices.”

Temper expectations for now. The trademarks are compelling, but none explicitly name Divinity: Original Sin 3. The “Original Sin” subtitle carries weight here — the Divinity franchise began with Divine Divinity in 2002, and Original Sin redefined the series in 2014 — so it’s possible Larian is careful with its wording while still under non‑disclosure. Alternatively, the company could be preparing a new title simply branded as Divinity rather than an Original Sin sequel.

Larian said in May that it’s “too early to tell” whether its next RPG will be a new Divinity game.
