Minimalist composer La Monte Young’s seminal improvisational piece “The Well-Tuned Piano” first debuted in 1974. Ever since, the piece has been recorded a number of instances, every with its personal impartial variations. One such efficiency, recorded on May 10, 1987, was launched as a DVD titled The Well-Tuned Piano within the Magenta Lights in 2000, and has since gone out of print. Now, Young has reissued that DVD launch, as the New York Times factors out. The Well-Tuned Piano within the Magenta Lights captures the over-6-hour lengthy efficiency in its entirety, with lighting designed by visible artist Marian Zazeela (who can also be Young’s spouse).
