The developers note that Silent Hill f was conceived as something “beautiful yet horrifying.” Drawing on 1960s Japan and a roster of plant-inspired creatures, the game achieves that eerie contrast. Though it functions as a canonical spin-off set decades before the mainline entries and in a different region, its reception shows how much appetite remains for fresh takes on the franchise.

Meanwhile, Solid Snake’s return was just as explosive: Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater moved roughly one million units worldwide within 24 hours of release. A beloved entry rebuilt for modern platforms, the remake’s instant demand was unsurprising — it promises intense survival-stealth action in a jungle environment, and it delivers.

Coincidentally, both Silent Hill f and Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater are set in the 1960s. That shared era is probably incidental, but if Konami is considering future revivals — say, of Zone of the Enders — a retro-futuristic approach might be worth exploring.

Silent Hill f’s Hinako actor is streaming the game as herself — and I can’t help but laugh at how genuinely terrified she becomes.
