In a brand new interview with Mojo, Johnny Marr shared some harsh phrases on this 12 months’s deliberate (and imminently canceled) “Classically Smiths” reunion shows, as fan web site Morrissey-Solo factors out. Regarding the mission—which was initially reported to function former Smiths drummer Mike Joyce, bassist Andy Rourke, and second guitarist Craig Gannon together with the Manchester Camerata Orchestra—Marr commented, “What a farce. That was so obviously about money.”
Marr continued, “The legacy was being plundered…. I wasn’t consulted and that tells you all you need to know, I think.” He added, “It felt like being burgled by someone you used to know. It’s a good job those guys weren’t running the band when we were actually together, else we would never have been able to get one concert together.”
The “Classically Smiths” performances have been first introduced on January 22. Later that day, Andy Rourke denied his involvement. Shortly after, Mike Joyce additionally pulled out. It was canceled altogether that very same day.
