With one week in market, the US sales performance of Ghost of Yotei was basically flat to that of Ghost of Tsushima.

You might expect a sequel to surpass its predecessor, and that often happens. But as Piscatella points out, Ghost of Tsushima launched in 2020 during pandemic lockdowns — a period of unusually high game engagement — and initially sold on PlayStation 4 at a $10 lower price, on a platform with a larger install base than the early PS5 market.
Those circumstances make Ghost of Yotei’s opening-week numbers all the more notable. It appears most, if not all, fans of the original returned within the first seven days. Released on October 6, 2025, the title looks set to keep selling strongly through the holiday season and beyond.
Of course the game’s immaculate presentation, breathtaking visuals, and absorbing narrative deserve credit — but I suspect the lo-fi beats soundtrack helped pull players in. There’s something uniquely satisfying about drifting through a stylized 1600s Japan with chilled rhythms underscoring the action.
Yes, Ghost of Yotei has brought back the hot springs, and the reaction is exactly what you’d expect: “Jin’s butt is still unsurpassed.”
