
This isn’t the first time Collins‑Laflamme has lowered expectations for Hytale. Over the span of a month he repeatedly described the game as “not good enough” and indicated he plans to price Early Access conservatively because he doesn’t yet feel it justifies a higher cost.
While his blunt messaging might seem odd, tempering expectations is sensible given how long players have waited. If the Early Access launch outperforms hopes, that’s a bonus; if it falls short, the candid framing should make players more forgiving of ongoing work.
Hytale enters Early Access on January 13, 2026, for PC.
According to the developers, Hytale is “coming together at last” after recent playtests: roughly 60 testers have signed off on the current build, though the team acknowledges there’s still a long road ahead and momentum will be crucial.
