Hackers Leaked Personal Data of Nearly Every Resident in the USA, UK, and Canada
The breach consists of two text files, totaling 277 GB in size, and contains almost 2.7 billion records. These records include names, addresses, and insurance data of “every resident” in the USA, UK, and Canada.
Initially, the hackers attempted to sell the data for $3.5 million, but later the archive became freely available online.
It is believed that the information may have been obtained from a backup database of the firm National Public Data. This company collects information from publicly available sources, compiles questionnaires, and sells the data to third parties.
