Many of those issues have since been addressed and the game is much more stable today, but Cyberpunk’s launch remains a stark reminder of the danger of overselling a product. Similarly, while The Witcher 3 is now widely celebrated, it launched with its own flaws — not as severe as Cyberpunk’s, but enough to cause headaches for early players.

No major release is without problems, and GTA 6 is unlikely to be an exception. Rockstar recently delayed the game again, moving the release to November 2026 — a decision that sent ripples through the industry, as many publishers avoid launching big titles opposite it (with Devolver Digital being a notable exception). That’s a great deal of anticipation to live up to. CD Projekt has even commented, stressing that no one wants another Night City-style rollout.

Does winning Most Wanted at the Golden Joysticks forecast a game’s future performance? Probably not. Still, it’s tempting to wonder whether any franchise will ever win three years running — perhaps Red Dead Redemption 3 or The Witcher 4 could be candidates someday.

Protesters have described Rockstar as “a machine” operating within “an industry rife with exploitation, unfair practices, and unreasonable working conditions,” following recent firings.
