As Chapter 6 Season 4 of Fortnite draws to a close, it’s a great moment to appreciate how strong the game currently feels—and to look forward to what’s coming next. Between polished systems, compelling new additions, and a steady stream of high-quality content, the experience right now is more enjoyable than it has been in a long time.
This season finishes on a high note: engaging gameplay loops, a Battle Pass loaded with desirable rewards, and a Halloween event brimming with standout cosmetics. Even more exciting are the teases for the next season, which have many players (myself included) eagerly anticipating what’s next.
Chapter 6 Season 4, titled “Shock ’N Awesome,” leans into Mighty Morphin Power Rangers nostalgia. For many players who grew up in the ’90s, the aesthetic and crossover hits that sweet spot of childhood fandom.
Epic Games delivered a Battle Pass that hit the mark, especially by including the Green and White Rangers—two skins fans were eager for. Additional Ranger outfits and Lord Zedd have been offered in the item shop, with prices ranging from roughly 1,500 V-Bucks for single skins to 3,600 V-Bucks for full bundles that include multiple Rangers, emotes, pickaxes, and extras. The Ranger crossover also spawned another large-scale kaiju encounter: players could pilot the Megazord and level terrain while facing off against a monstrous adversary in true Power Rangers fashion.
Early balance issues with a couple of new weapons (notably the Swarmstrike rocket and the Blade Blaster pistol) were addressed quickly, and the season settled into a satisfying, well-tuned state—just in time for the spooky festivities to ramp up.
Image: Epic GamesThe annual Fortnitemares celebration is in full swing, bringing one of the strongest horror-themed rosters the game has seen. New additions this year include Art the Clown (Terrifier), Jason Voorhees (Friday the 13th), Wednesday Addams (Wednesday), Ghostface (Scream), Huggy Wuggy (Poppy Playtime), The Grabber (Black Phone 2), Semibots (REPO), and an entire Scooby-Doo lineup—twelve licensed skins in total, plus several original spooky designs (and yes, Doja Cat makes an appearance).
Fortnitemares also introduced a standout specialty weapon: Last Call. It transforms you into Ghostface by equipping a knife and a cell phone that briefly highlights nearby players. The kit increases sprint speed and stamina during pursuits, letting you close the gap and execute stealthy takedowns—complete with authentic audio cues inspired by the films. It’s especially thrilling (and occasionally lethal) to test Last Call against NPC bosses like Jason in Creepy Camps.
Image: Epic Games via PolygonLast Call feels well-balanced: it deals meaningful damage, imposes a small penalty during its leaping attack, and remains rare enough on the map to make acquiring it feel like a prize. Another notable weapon this season is the Wrecker Revolver—a one-handed revolver that hits like a shotgun. After an initial period of being too strong, it was dialed back; it still stands out as a powerful, highly enjoyable option thanks to its range and handling.
With over 1,200 hours in Fortnite, I can honestly say this is some of the most fun the game has offered since I picked it up during Chapter 2 in 2019. And things are only getting more intriguing thanks to the next big crossover: The Simpsons.
Image: Epic GamesFew properties span as many generations as The Simpsons, which has been on air since 1989 and is now well into its long run. That longevity gives Epic a deep catalogue of characters and locations to draw from, and early leaks hint at a generous lineup of Springfield staples rendered in a Simpsons-inspired art style.
Leaked assets suggest potential character variants—Marge, Homer, Bart, Lisa, Krusty, Moe, and more—some appearing in mech suits or reimagined in the game’s style. Rumors also indicate that the season may overhaul the map, replacing the Chapter 6 landscape with a cel-shaded Springfield featuring recognizable points of interest like the power plant, Moe’s Tavern, the Simpson home, and Springfield Gorge.
Image: Epic GamesEven if the map overhaul isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, the temporary novelty of a cel-shaded Springfield should offer a fresh, distinct vibe for the game. And if you don’t love the changes, seasons rotate—by December the next holiday updates typically arrive, bringing more free cosmetics and festive content.
We’re in a particularly strong era for Fortnite: past updates were solid, the present is exciting, and upcoming collaborations could raise the bar even higher. If you’ve never tried Fortnite, or you drifted away a while back, now is a perfect time to jump back in—there’s a lot to enjoy.
