The 1997 Final Fantasy 7 is a massive journey on its own, but the mythology becomes increasingly complex when you add the Vincent Valentine-led Dirge of Cerberus, the Zack Fair prequel Crisis Core, and the cinematic sequel Final Fantasy 7: Advent Children.
While Advent Children hasn’t been directly explicitly referenced in the first two chapters—fittingly, as it takes place after the game’s events—Kitase previously mentioned that the trilogy is designed to align with the film. “We intend to eventually bridge the gap with Advent Children, ensuring it remains part of the official canon. The narrative trajectory is being handled carefully so that everything concludes in a way that remains consistent with the movie.”
As anticipation builds for the final entry in the trilogy, the development leads have highlighted the importance of the Highwind airship, though Square Enix is still finalizing the title for the third installment.
