One player’s clip shows severely corrupted textures followed by a crash, while another user joked, “Fallout 4 anniversary update bringing maximum nostalgia” next to a screenshot of a crash. On Reddit, players report that the new update “breaks the game and adds nothing more than a UI update so that you can pay for mods.”
A separate discussion thread echoes similar complaints — one comment summed it up: “Breaking the game on its anniversary is peak Bethesda.” Other users report their games failing to launch entirely. It’s an unfortunate situation, but not unfamiliar to seasoned Bethesda fans. Hopefully the developers will address these issues soon to deliver a smoother anniversary experience, including fixes for the update and the new paid content.
To be fair, Skyrim’s Anniversary Edition has matured into a genuinely enjoyable package over time, with new content and inventive community creations that enrich the base game — a benchmark many hope Fallout 4 can reach after further refinement.
Fallout 4’s cinematic dialogue system failed to connect with players despite Bethesda spending “forever” on it, Todd Howard says: “It really did not resonate.”
