Internal documents seen by Business Insider indicate employees are expected to use AI to boost productivity and to complete company training on how those tools work. Some teams are instructed to treat an AI model as a collaborative “thought partner.”
EA also referenced AI in its annual 10-K filing, saying it planned to integrate these technologies while warning that “the use of artificial intelligence might present social and ethical issues that, if not managed appropriately, may result in legal and reputational harm, cause consumers to lose confidence in our business and brands and negatively impact our financial and operating results.”
The publisher later announced a collaboration with Stability AI to help produce in-game assets and concept visuals, stating that machine learning and artificial intelligence have long driven innovation at EA.
A former senior Respawn employee—one of roughly 100 staff let go in the spring—told Business Insider they suspect AI played a role in their dismissal. According to that source, some QA tasks and play-test analysis have been routed through automated systems, reducing the need for human oversight in certain areas.
Industry metrics show a dramatic rise in games using AI-generated assets in recent years—reports suggest year-over-year increases as high as 800%—yet many developers insist that human creativity and judgment remain indispensable.
EA told employees concerned about layoffs following the $55 billion acquisition that there would be “no immediate changes” to their roles—an assurance where the word “immediate” may prove significant.
