Even while under $20 million in debt, EA reportedly urges 15,000 employees to use AI as a “thought partner” from character art to playtesting

Documents reviewed by Business Insider indicate employees are required to adopt AI for efficiency and to complete training on the technology. In some roles, staff are expected to use a model as a collaborative “thought partner” in their workflow.

EA referenced AI in its annual 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, saying it plans to integrate such technologies while warning that AI may introduce social and ethical risks that—if mishandled—could cause legal or reputational damage, undermine consumer trust, and negatively affect financial performance. EA later announced a partnership with Stability AI to help generate in-game assets and concept visuals. “Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI) have long been cornerstones of innovation at EA,” the company said in the announcement.

A former senior Respawn employee—one of roughly 100 colleagues laid off this spring—told Business Insider they suspect part of the reason for their dismissal was AI taking over portions of the QA workflow. According to the source, play-test feedback was routed through models to extract insights that traditionally fell to QA managers.

Other data points point to a dramatic uptick in games using AI-generated assets—reports cite year-on-year increases as high as 800%—even as many developers argue that algorithmic tools cannot replace human creativity and oversight. Read more.
