Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined is scheduled to launch in February 2026. More than 25 years after the original, a new development team is leading the remake—yet Ichikawa agrees with Horii’s assessment and stresses the importance of preserving those Horii-esque elements.
“The series’ RPG foundations are its greatest strength,” Ichikawa says. “By ‘Horii-esque elements’ I mean the humor woven into the narrative, the charming dialogue and character expressions—there’s a sweetness to it that makes an epic story feel personally relevant.”
At 100+ hours, Dragon Quest 7 is an enormous JRPG, so in the Reimagined remake “a few of the stories which weren’t 100% relevant to the main storyline have just been cut entirely.”
