Dragon Ball Fans: Mark Your Calendars for January

Fans hoping for Dragon Ball announcements that go beyond new video games will finally have something to anticipate: Genkidamatsuri, a major showcase scheduled for January 25, 2026. The event’s official site is available here: Genkidamatsuri.

Organizers have confirmed that the gathering — which will take place at Makuhari Messe, just outside Tokyo — will reveal a new Dragon Ball video game along with two other large-scale projects that have not yet been detailed.

Among the scheduled guests are Masako Nozawa, the legendary voice of Goku, and Akio Iyoku, listed as president of Capsule Corporation Tokyo and a producer associated with Dragon Ball Daima.

Genkidamatsuri is being promoted as a celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Dragon Ball anime’s debut. Still, the franchise finds itself in a complicated moment: although new merchandise and spin-offs appear regularly, many fans are eager for fresh creative installments — notably the next chapters of the Dragon Ball Super manga and anime — which currently seem stalled.

Speculation has circulated that legal and rights disputes involving the late creator Akira Toriyama’s estate, publisher Shueisha, and certain production figures are contributing to the hold-up. What is indisputable is that Toriyama’s passing left a creative and organizational gap the series continues to navigate.

Ideally, Genkidamatsuri — a name that blends Genkidama (the original Japanese term for the Spirit Bomb) and matsuri (festival) — will both honor four decades of one of manga and anime’s most influential works and bring meaningful, positive announcements for the community.
