Hamaguchi added that the final entry needs to introduce new gameplay and a larger scale to succeed. “In the third part, for the project to succeed, we need to implement a new experience and a new scale. And in that evolution, one of the key words is ‘Highwind,'” he said.
For context, the Highwind is the party’s flying ship from the original Final Fantasy 7, so aircraft and aerial traversal are expected to play a major role in the new game. Hamaguchi explained the “new experience” is nearly finalized and the team is now entering a phase focused on expanding and refining it.
“From the director’s perspective, the game has reached a point where it finally begins to reflect the vision I had,” Hamaguchi continued, expressing eagerness to let players try it. He tempered that excitement by asking fans to be patient: “We still need to finish it before delivering it, so I ask you to wait just a little longer. We’ll be able to share information with you soon.”
Even if it’s unlikely, hopeful fans (myself included) are clinging to the possibility that we’ll hear something around The Game Awards.
