Despite another six-month postponement for GTA 6, Devolver Digital is still sticking to its pledge to release a title on the same day as the industry heavyweight.
Rockstar’s blockbuster launches often redefine the market and attract massive attention and revenue, but they can also eclipse other releases — games that arrive close to a new GTA or Red Dead typically struggle to find an audience. Hideo Kojima reportedly favoured a September launch for Death Stranding 2, yet the game was scheduled for June; while Rockstar wasn’t officially cited as the reason, some observers have speculated the shift was related to timing around GTA’s rollout.
Devolver didn’t stop at that. Replying to the announcement, the publisher asked, “DO YOU NEED A PUBLISHER TO GET THIS THING BACK ON TRACK? DMs are open. Our work on BALL x PIT speaks for itself.” So, if Take-Two and Rockstar ever chose not to publish GTA 6 themselves, Devolver suggested it would be ready to step in — and still launch on the same day.
After a delay he previously described as unlikely, Take‑Two’s CEO warned that rushing development can lead to problems and repeated his familiar line: “I’m highly confident on the new date.”
