Netflix has greenlit a second season of Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch. The animated series brings Ubisoft’s long-running stealth franchise to the screen, following elite operative Sam Fisher as he slips behind enemy lines on covert missions for the shadowy U.S. black-ops unit known as Third Echelon.

Developed in partnership with Ubisoft and created by Derek Kolstad (best known for the John Wick films), Splinter Cell: Deathwatch is co-directed by Guillaume Dousse and Félicien Colmet-Daage. Liev Schreiber returns to voice Sam Fisher in season two, joined by Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia Mckenna.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, “In this first-ever adaptation of the acclaimed stealth video game franchise Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back into the field when a wounded young operative seeks out his help.” The show is produced by Ubisoft in collaboration with Derek Kolstad, Sun Creature and Fost.

The Splinter Cell franchise began in 2002 and has since grown to include several sequels, spin-offs and a series of tie-in novels. Although Tom Clancy’s name is attached to the franchise, the books were written by other authors and Clancy gave his endorsement to the games following the success of related series such as Rainbow Six and Ghost Recon.

The most recent mainline game, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, arrived in 2013. Ubisoft has hinted at future plans for the franchise, and the first season of Deathwatch reportedly adjusted some plot elements to avoid conflicting with the developer’s broader intentions for the series.

No release date for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch season two has been announced yet. In the meantime, check out the 25 best shows on Netflix to stream right now.
