Dead Space

Glen Schofield — the creative force behind the original Dead Space and the architect of its concept — has repeatedly said he wants to keep the franchise alive. He’s been proactively reaching out to EA about making Dead Space 4, and in a recent interview he suggested EA could be more open to the idea now that the company is under new ownership and carrying substantial debt.

Schofield told IGN that he recently pitched EA and offered to reassemble the original leadership team. “I can get back the leadership team. I need the models from EA Motive — who handled the 2023 Dead Space remake — and I can save you $30–40 million on the concept I have,” he said, adding that EA initially declined.

Schofield also said he has several ready-to-go concepts, and one of those is Dead Space 4. “The fact EA was just sold could create an opening,” he commented. “I’m already making calls.”

What might a post-buyout EA mean for the franchise? That’s the big unknown. As a private company without shareholder pressure, EA could decide to greenlight passion projects it previously passed on. Conversely, facing roughly $20 billion in debt, the new owners might cut costs aggressively — trimming studios and reducing headcount to stabilize finances.

Schofield said he’s preparing for either scenario. “I don’t know where EA’s head is right now — I don’t believe they made money on the Dead Space remake,” he said. “Dead Space should be explored across other media — films, television — but I’m more hopeful since the sale, because the IP could end up in different hands.”

The Dead Space remake ranks highly on our list of the best horror games available to play today.
