David Berman, the poet and songwriter identified for his tasks Silver Jews and Purple Mountains, has died. Drag City confirmed the information; his reason for dying is unknown. He was 52 years previous.
Berman shaped Silver Jews within the late ’80s with Pavement members Stephen Malkmus and Bob Nastanovich. The group went via a number of lineup modifications and launched six studio albums between the years of 1994 and 2008. Berman remained the one fixed member of the band throughout that point interval. His first assortment of poetry, Actual Air, was launched in 1999. After releasing their sixth LP Lookout Mountain, Lookout Sea in 2008, Berman dissolved Silver Jews the next 12 months.
A decade after Silver Jews disbanded, Berman introduced a brand new mission known as Purple Mountains. He launched a self-titled album beneath that moniker in July by way of his longtime label residence, Drag City. His North American tour behind the brand new album was set to start this weekend.
