Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s Jennifer English says voicing two characters was “hard” — “I had to find the subtlety of it being the same but different”

That duality applies to English’s two roles — Maelle and Alicia — and it complicated her approach to the characters. “Right now I’m really reflecting on playing Alicia,” she told GamesRadar+ at the Golden Joystick Awards. “It was difficult because I had to find the subtlety of being the same yet different.”

“Even though Sandfall Interactive processed my voice, I worked to create a distinct cadence and personality while preserving the core of the character,” she added. “I’m quite proud of how it turned out, and every scene with my phenomenal castmates — they’re all iconic.”

Elsewhere at the awards, Expedition 33 creative director Guillaume Broche said he doesn’t want the studio to undergo drastic changes simply because the game has enjoyed commercial success and critical praise.
