
That terse, almost eerie post is a stark reminder of the consequences of shipping a game before it’s finished. Cyberpunk 2077’s launch became one of the most infamous, bug-ridden debuts of the generation — an outcome that needed little elaboration.
While the message was clearly aimed at Rockstar, it also serves as a nudge to players to temper expectations. As Gabe Newell put it: “Late is just for a little while, suck is forever.” In Cyberpunk’s case things didn’t truly stabilize until around the 2.0 update, but nobody wants to buy a title and wait years for it to reach an acceptable state.
Take-Two’s leadership appears mindful of that risk too. CEO Strauss Zelnick told investors, “When our competitors go to market before something was ready, bad things happen.”
