Cards Against Humanity releases free deck roasting Elon Musk over ‘space garbage’ lawsuit

Cards Against Humanity and SpaceX Settle Trespass Lawsuit

Thirteen months after Cards Against Humanity filed a $15 million lawsuit accusing SpaceX of trespassing on property owned by the game’s creators, the parties have reached a settlement, according to court records and a recent blog post from Cards Against Humanity.

Cards Against Humanity purchased the plot near the U.S.–Mexico border in 2017 through a crowdfunding campaign intended to block the construction of a proposed border wall. In September 2024 the company says it discovered that SpaceX had left what CAH described as “space garbage” on the land — spreading gravel and parking vehicles on the property — and subsequently filed suit. CAH also pledged that contributors to the original campaign would be entitled to a share of any settlement proceeds.

The blog entry, titled “Musk Update,” explains that while the settlement did not produce enough money to pay contributors as originally hoped, it did secure the removal of SpaceX’s equipment and debris from the site.

CAH told supporters that Musk’s team formally acknowledged they had trespassed, removed the dumped material, and vacated the property. However, the company says the monetary recovery fell far short of expectations, leaving contributors without the cash distribution CAH had once promised.

Rather than a cash payout, Cards Against Humanity will send those who backed the land purchase a complimentary mini-pack of new cards focused on Elon Musk. The company says the Musk-themed pack will be mailed in early 2026.

“Since we couldn’t deliver the cash you were hoping for, we’re sending you something else: a free, limited-edition mini-pack of exclusive Elon Musk cards,” the post explains. Supporters can register to receive the pack via this signup page.

Neither Elon Musk nor SpaceX have publicly commented on the settlement. According to Cards Against Humanity, a condition of the agreement prevents either side from disclosing its financial terms. CAH added that the parcel will be restored to a natural state — free of the debris they described as “space garbage” and still without any border wall.
