Capcom has confirmed plans to grow several of its franchises, specifically Devil May Cry, Ace Attorney, and Mega Man.
Outside of Nintendo, few publishers can claim a roster of characters and series as instantly recognisable as Capcom’s. The company has revived classics such as Onimusha and Okami in recent years, but unless a franchise is Resident Evil, Monster Hunter or Street Fighter, new entries don’t always feel guaranteed. For example, Devil May Cry 5 sold 10 million copies after an 11‑year hiatus, yet the series hasn’t seen a follow-up — at least not publicly. That may be changing, however.
In its 2025 Integrated Report (reported by Rockman Corner), COO Haruhiro Tsujimoto states that Capcom is concentrating on core franchises like Resident Evil, Monster Hunter and Street Fighter, and that the company “consistently release[s] two to three major new titles each year.” He adds that Capcom recognises the need to expand its development pipeline going forward.
Tsujimoto emphasises that Capcom “owns a wealth of globally popular brands,” singling out Mega Man, Devil May Cry and Ace Attorney. The company plans to broaden each series’ reach through new releases, remakes and ports to additional platforms. By strengthening brand recognition and nurturing dedicated fan communities, Capcom intends to elevate these properties to core IP status.
Devil May Cry’s long absence has been partly explained by internal shifts: producer Hideaki Itsuno led Dragon’s Dogma 2 and subsequently departed Capcom in 2024, and other key team members — including combat designer Ryota Suzuki — have also left. That said, a change in leadership doesn’t necessarily doom a franchise; Street Fighter 6 benefitted from a new creative lead and is widely regarded as one of the best fighting games in recent memory. Devil May Cry 5 left several narrative and mechanical threads open, so there are multiple directions a revival could take.
Given the renewed interest generated by the animated series and the subsequent sales bump, it seems unlikely that Devil May Cry will remain idle for long. Capcom’s stated intention to invest in Mega Man and Ace Attorney should also be welcome news for fans who have been waiting for fresh entries or proper revivals.
Please act surprised: Resident Evil Requiem reportedly features Leon Kennedy, a detail that appears to have been revealed via a PlayStation leak — something Capcom is unlikely to be pleased about.
