Call of Duty: Vanguard officially announced, to be revealed in Warzone

Activision released a new teaser trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard, officially announcing the next game in the series after a series of leaks. Players will get a first look at this year’s Call of Duty game on Aug. 19, during a special event inside Call of Duty: Warzone called the Battle of Verdansk.

The first trailer for Call of Duty: Vanguard opens with a montage of battlefields that centers on World War II. There’s a sniper’s nest that appears to be in or near Russia, a desert battlefield, a German forest, and a beach littered with destroyed aircraft. Each one of these areas features a face somewhere in the landscape, and sometimes a name (Petrova in Cyrillic, Sgt. Kingsley), hinting at characters that will be in the game. It’s also possible that these characters are the same four from the game’s official art at the end of the trailer.

The trailer featuring each of these battlefields also seems to imply that the game will likely take place in all four theaters of the WWII: the Eastern Front, the Western Front, North Africa, and the Pacific — something Activision and the Call of Duty team have been teasing for the last several days.

It seems that Activision and developer Sledgehammer Games will announce more information about the game on Aug. 19 at 1:30 p.m. ET inside of Warzone. If this is anything like previous events set inside the free-to-play Call of Duty battle royale game, you’ll likely want to log in well ahead of the scheduled start time to make sure you get in. While it’s not clear exactly what the event will be just yet, Activision will likely reveal more about it before it starts on Thursday.

In advance of Vanguard’s reveal, Call of Duty publisher Activision Blizzard faces wide-ranging allegations that it maintains a toxic workplace environment that is particularly hostile to women, pays them less, and subjects them to sexual harassment, and that perpetrators are not meaningfully punished, according to a lawsuit filed by California’s Department of Fair Employment and Housing in July. You can read more about the allegations against Activision Blizzard in Polygon’s explainer.
