Representative Ro Khanna used his online platform to call for regulatory action, writing that “we need regulations that prevent companies from using AI to eliminate jobs to extract greater profits.” He added that artists should have a voice in how AI is implemented, be eligible to share in resulting revenue, and that policymakers should consider taxes or remedies for large-scale displacement.

“Support innovation, but in a way that is democratic and benefits all Americans,” one reply reads. In another, Khanna wrote, “I believe tech can create jobs, require skilled trades, and should embrace innovation. But we need incentives for it to augment people’s capabilities rather than replace them, and a plan to hire affected workers so the benefits reach every American.”

Interestingly, government attention to video games is not new: the GTA 6 delay recently reached the Polish parliament, and the subsequent Rockstar Games layoffs were discussed in the UK Parliament as well.
