Farewell, Unstable Cores—your time was short and contentious.
On the Destiny subreddit, where many players were celebrating the change, Bungie explained why the fix arrived so fast. The studio temporarily credited every account with 777,777 Unstable Cores to ensure players could continue infusing gear while other reward changes rolled out in the Portal—avoiding frustrating “power bumps” caused by the unstable core mechanic. See the Reddit discussion.
Bungie added that some of these adjustments were originally planned to arrive nearer to the Renegades window, but the team found short-term solutions that allowed the changes to be implemented earlier. “Hope it helps!” the studio wrote.
When a player asked if this signals a broader turnaround, the Destiny 2 Team replied candidly: “We have a lot more work to do.”
When Bungie initially laid out the proposed Infusion costs, many feared the new system would be far more punishing. The swift reversal and simplification should ease those concerns.
“We understand the anxiety,” Bungie told one relieved Redditor. “We’re doing what we can to rebuild some trust here.”
It’s a rare win: a badly received change corrected quickly and clearly. The bigger question is whether Bungie can continue to win back player confidence one fix at a time.
