Borderlands Online revival still on as modder leading recreation of Gearbox’s canceled China MMO says devs are on “one of the latest, if not final, builds”

“After a long hiatus, we’re slowly getting back into continuing our efforts to get the game playable,” EpicNNG writes. He explains that server code remains one of the biggest hurdles, but adds that the team has achieved “significant progress” both in what’s playable and in the client version—potentially reaching one of the game’s latest, if not final, builds.

EpicNNG says this progress brings renewed optimism for the project’s future. He also notes he won’t be sharing gameplay from the new build for now, but promised to reveal more previously unknown details about Borderlands Online soon. He thanks supporters and quips, “billionaire overlords, don’t C&D us.”

He emphasizes that the team are simply devoted fans hoping to return this lost title to the community, and invites any developers interested in contributing to reach out via the contact information he provided.

All told, the update is encouraging: Borderlands Online appears to be moving forward again, and the community is already offering assistance. Hopefully the project will one day deliver the MMO experience fans were expecting when the original was cancelled.
