Although the delay is inconvenient, it reduces the chance Gearbox will need to push out immediate hotfixes. The studio hasn’t published a complete list of targets, but one obvious candidate is the Vampiric Vivisecting Throwing Knife — the so‑called “crit knife” — which creates temporary critical‑damage zones where it lands.
Tools that produce persistent crit zones are especially valuable for replaying boss encounters and farming high‑tier loot, which is precisely what many players are doing. Gearbox’s stated aim is to broaden the pool of viable builds rather than have players funnel into a handful of dominant setups. Both Grant Kao (associate creative director) and Graeme Timmins (creative director on Borderlands 4) have acknowledged the issue.
“Our intent is always to expand the number of builds, so any adjustment we make is in service of that goal,” Timmins posted on Twitter. If you rely heavily on the crit knife, now’s a good time to use it while it’s still at full strength.
