Still, Béart says actors must be proactive in capitalizing on that momentum, because studios don’t always champion them. “We harness social media and algorithms to amplify our profiles,” she explains, “because too often we’re treated like outsourced contributors.”

In a similar vein, Expedition 33 castmate Charlie Cox recently highlighted how many gifted professionals collaborate to shape a single, charismatic protagonist, crediting Gustave’s allure to performance-capture artist Maxence Cazorla.

“Cox’s recognition is generous and helps illuminate the particular challenges of game performances,” said Roger Clark, the voice behind Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2. “It takes a village.”

Béart says the biggest misconception about Karlach, a Tiefling, is that she’s “sweet” and “carefree”: “She was a force in hell.”
