Douse isn’t wrong — Megabonk is brain rot, but in the best way. Its mix of slapstick humor and simple strategy is compelling and thoroughly entertaining if you’re on the same wavelength. Most runs consist of frantic swerving, piling up points and doing everything you can to avoid an untimely death.

When you do fall, the ideal outcome is something spectacularly ridiculous — then you jump right back in. Megabonk shares Vampire Survivors’ compulsive replayability: you always want one more run, whether to improve your score or to pull off something even more absurd than before.

The game sold over one million copies in just two weeks, a milestone that surprised solo developer Vedinad. One developer working on Palworld admitted Megabonk’s chaos has been eating into their Borderlands 4 time, while former Counter-Strike pro Shroud has named it his frontrunner for Game of the Year.

All of that sits alongside more than 21,000 positive Steam reviews and counting. In a modern David-versus-Goliath story, ‘Bonk is outpacing the AAA behemoths — long may it continue.

Indie roguelike breakout Megabonk hit a new player record over the weekend, charting higher than Call of Duty, Borderlands 4 and Marvel Rivals
