[SOLVED] My Steam Currency suddenly changed
I was trying to buy a game on steam store called arcane raise and while I was buying it, it gave an error and told me to try again later and when I refreshed the page my steam currency went from TRY (Turkish Lira) to UAH (Ukrainian hryvnia). I am currently opted to "Steam Client Beta" and that might be what caused it. Is anyone having same issue?

Edit: After talking to steam support back and forth they saw that I am innocent and reversed it back for me even though they said that Steam support can't change my currency. So I am glad they helped and solved my issue. I asked them what caused it and still waiting for reply and will edit this thread if I ever get an answer.

Edit 2: It happened again while I was trying to buy - Arcane Raise - again and my currency switched back to UAH from TRY. I am frustrated at the moment.

Edit 3: I've got response directly from Valve and they updated my account and fixed it again. They told me to try the purchase again and now my currency does not get changed when I buy games from Steam Store. Thank you for everyone in thread and to Valve for helping me out as quickly as they can. This problem was occurred in May 27 and now it is completely fixed for me in May 30, that 3 days of waiting felt longer than 3 days but yeah props to Valve for fast response and taking action.

Just let it go. Don’t try to push the issue. It’s not something you want to advertise.
My steam account which I created in 2014 was Turkish Lira because I live in Turkey and I have never changed my currency for once at all. So I get your point but no, I am not abusing anything. I just happen to live in Turkey :feelscry:

Cool, then my remark isn’t aimed at you.

Actual people in Turkey might be getting screwed over as the system authenticates regions to catch abusers. You should totally complain.

Everyone else should stay as far from Support as possible.

Supposedly the way they determine region is through payment methods, well now it is based on IP I guess, but it is a lot easier to abuse imo. Which is why they changed to payment methods a year or so ago.

It happened to me too.
It’s clearly not solely payment method right now because the auto-flag system is mostly netting region hoppers by the looks of it - it’s not widespread enough for it to be an “everyone” issue. Something has changed at least for now.

Obviously, they need to sort it out for people like Ranger.

Interesting, this is the third thread today from a user that their store region suddenly changed.
I wonder whats going on, if its intentional or a bug.

More like people are lying about “never changing regions”

Also Cyprus is not part of Turkey no matter how much the OP thinks it is, because no one recognizes that region as being part of Turkey. Cyprus is part of the Eurozone and uses the Euro for its currency. Cyprus being part of Turkey has as much merit as saying Barcelona isn’t part of Spain because the Catalonians don’t want it to be

Steam just figured out the Op is in fact not in Turkey but rather in Cyprus.

I live in Turkey, but I'm just showing Cyprus to make it known for fun because no one recognizes it except Turkey and a few other countries. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus is a de facto country, but I don't live there. I live in Turkey, as I said above, and as a matter of fact, I live in the earthquake area where a 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck on February 6 in Turkey. I almost died. So don't make assumptions when I describe my displayed country as something else.

Everybody says they are from X when Valve can see they are logging in from Y.

No the guy is actually kinda right, my friend is from Indonesia and did this scummy regional swap thing for the last 4 months and just getting reverted back yesterday, and instead getting sent back to ID he was sent to Singapore and stuck with it for the next 3 months before he can try go back to ID, idk if he used VPN or not when that happen but i've read people experience same thing on some forums, some said he is from Canada and being sent to Hong Kong, some from Australia and being sent to Germany.

Maybe it was just accidental or maybe not , maybe Valve just like doing a bit of "trolling" here lol.

I was sent to central Europe from which I emigrated 6 years ago and never used Euro or was in Europe. Idk why they set my account there lol. I don't have any European payment method :'D

Same problem . I went to Turkey to visit relatives, and there I changed the region (it was a year or two ago). I live in Kyrgyzstan. Wanted to buy a game - Devil Daggers. All of a sudden, my region changed from Turkey to Cyprus! Although now I am in Kyrgyzstan

do you get any ban or sort like community ban or steam ban, or your region just changed?
My region just changed but after talking to steam support back and forth they saw that I am innocent and reversed it back for me even though they said that Steam support can't change my currency. So I am glad they helped and solved my issue.

В UAH cейчас нормальные цены, на новые игры даже дешевле чем в Турции, так что радуйся, накупил мешок игр за лиры, а перенесло обратно в дешевый регион.
