Did they say it's satire somewhere officially?
So yea,it looks legit.
We're currently entirely focused on getting the next update out.
spineless knee-benders.
It's hard to take this situation with levity when they dig themselves deeper with every statement full of nebulous adverbs.
We like to be a little silly on our social media, but offered our thoughts about the situation with a statement to Unity here on Twitter, we sincerely hope they reverse their decision. - https://x.com/MassiveMonster/status/1701808567140102633?s=20
They did raise some awareness with their post since various news websites picked it up and wrote about it.
But wanting them to delist their game is not only punishing them, but also us the players.
Their post wasn't "satirical." It was the equivalent of a bluff, and when their bluff was called, they folded. Any reasonable adult would come to that conclusion. I'm glad it had the effect of raising awareness, but awareness by itself means nothing if people are too afraid to take a stand.
Indie developers have enough to deal with without worrying about retroactive changes to contracts signed. It's a scumbag, predatory move and delisting would have been an entirely proportional response. While I don't blame them one bit for not falling on their swords, this was nothing other than an attention grabbing knee bend move. There's no polite way to put it otherwise that isn't flat out dishonest.
Hopefully Unity receives enough backlash to reconsider from other devs. Predatory changes always start small to probe what they can get away with. A line in the sand needs to be drawn, or this already beleaguered industry will suffer some serious hits down the line.
