Capcom Are Fixing The Infamous Rain In Resident Evil 4 With A Day 1 Patch

The raingate controversy has been averted!

Resident Evil fans don’t have long to wait now for the much-anticipated remake of Resident Evil 4, but there was one question that many fans had after seeing gameplay footage. Originally published by GameInformer in a rather impressive spread of exclusive information, the coverage also included a lengthy gameplay video showing Leon and Ashley shortly after escaping the church.

Fans quickly pointed out that the rain in this sequence while trying to be moody and atmospheric, had a strange look to it and mimicked other recent remasters and remakes like Grand Theft Auto III. Fans quickly dubbed the incident “raingate” and it’s been a bit of a concern amongst them whether it would be addressed before the game releases later this month.

Thankfully, it appears that our concerns were heard.

After our preview earlier this month, I also was able to have an interview with Hirabayashi Yoshiaki, producer on the remake and asked him specifically if there would be any changes to the rain effect as not only did it look intense but it also would have been distracting for some players. Yoshiaki had a simple but encouraging response.

“We’ve seen everyone’s reaction to the rain effects, and we are working on a day-one patch to make adjustments”

Great news, for sure, and just indicative of how Capcom is always listening to fans when it comes to these remakes.

Resident Evil 4 launches on March 24th 2023 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A demo is due later this month.
