It's been a little while since we last got to cut something in half with a chainsaw bayonet. We haven't officially heard what the current developer of the Gears Of War series, The Coalition, is currently working on. However, thanks to a recent interview with Xbox marketing executive, Aaron Greenberg, we may have a hint about their next projects.

During an Xbox event taking place in South America, Greenberg revealed various bits of information regarding Microsoft properties like Hellblade 2 and Psychonauts 2. When it came time to discuss the Gears franchise, Greenberg began talking about The Coalition's latest work. As we previously reported, Greenberg mentioned that the company assisted with the Matrix Awakens tech demo that came out a few months ago. He then stated that they are "currently working on several unannounced projects."

Of course, we have to assume that The Coalition is creating a new Gears game as the last official entry in the series was Gears 5 back in 2019. It's one of Microsoft's oldest and most reliable franchises alongside Halo and Forza, so a new installment of the bloody locust-slaughtering adventures of Marcus Fenix and his offspring has to be in the pipeline.

Whether it's Gears 6, a successor to Gears Tactics, a remastered collection of the original Gears Of Wars games, or some other Gears spin-off, some sort of Gears title is likely being developed at this time. Who knows, maybe we'll get a follow-up to everyone's favorite Gears game, Gears Pop!

But what's interesting about Greenberg's statements is that it's not explicitly stated that every project The Coalition is currently working on is set in the Gears universe. There have been some slight rumors that it's been developing a brand new intellectual property based off of an Unreal Engine 5 demo they released last July called Alpha Point. Considering that the developer was instrumental in getting the Matrix Awakens made, it's possible that the company in charge of Gears may be branching out and making something that's not Gears.

It wouldn't be surprising if Gears news starts trickling out around E3 season. For now, we'll wait and see what The Coalition has up its sleeves. The developer has more or less been a factory that churns out Gears games for the last several years. It would be interesting to see them take their talents for creating gore and mayhem and apply them to a completely different setting.
