I was in the thread when that happened lol. The leak did show that the developer had modeled the portion of armor incorrectly in-game. But what the poster did was try to add dimensional measurements, except he misrepresented the length of the machine gun by implying it was ~42% longer than it was in actuality. Scaling off this would have created a massive buff to the armor, and the whole thread called him out on it before the mods just went and nuked the thread from orbit. Should be noted that this guy had been posting sped up videos of the turret rotating (fishing for another buff) and lying about other aspects of the tank's armor - so despite being an active crewman he was pretty well discredited before this whole thing happened.

Fun times.

It gets better, the game recently closed a publicly accessable development server that previewed the upcoming content drop. The thing about these dev servers is that the values for things such as armor, penetration, or flight models are usually placeholders subject to change on final release.

So what happens was the developer added this shell to the server, but copy/pasted the values of the previous version as a placeholder. This poster saw this, flipped out, and went ahead and posted treason to correct what are publicly communicated as placeholder values.

Though my personal favorite is the initial leak of the Challenger 2 where the poster actively lied about the dimensions of the armor in the classified document in an attempt to get the tank buffed in game.
this reminds me of this meme

It's because the toxic pit community in that game are the absolute worst alt-right assholes. And those types have nothing but their little tank game and bigotry in their lives. Combine that with the faux-alpha personality type that accompanies being that kind of person and you end up with a massive dick waving contest that must be won by any means necessary.

As a WT player I have to close my eyes and take a breath before I ever look at any news involving the game.

Between 4 or 5 classified leaks including a British tanker editing a document to make it look like it was declassified and released to the public, regional third party ex-advertisers contracted by gaijin several years ago who sponsored videos by Russians recorded in occupied parts of Ukraine and on Russian porn star channels or the British voice actor who used to voice all the trailers being cut loose after he was identified as narrating a video for the Kremlin and turned out to be a full blown backer of the government there is just no in-between when it comes to news.

It's always either military people trying to leak classified documents to win internet arguments and buff vehicles dragging gaijin into inquiries by government agencies and guaranteing they will never be buffed since gaijin will never touch classified data or contracted employees dragging gaijin into political nightmares while they desperately try to walk a tightrope.

I don't think any Italian service members have leaked so give it a month or two and I'm sure some Ariete players will try to get some buffs up in there as well.

Lmao dude what is this....How does this game have these sorts of connections?
Military sim folks are pretty insane and go to insane lengths to win arguments.

Tank sim games probably attack alot of actual soldiers that operate tanks or work on them so you get the ultimate 'proof im right' arguments. With a little bit of sedition in the process.

When I read this post it didn't immediately occur to me that Gaijin was the company making the game, so I my first thought was that you had chosen this opportunity to showcase that you were a militantly weebish otaku.

As observed by a Redditor:

/u/Nootpau said:
This is the SIXTH time that classified military specifications have been leaked on Warthunder forums by military personnel around the world. So far, two British Challenger tanks have leaked, one Eurocopter Tiger attack helicopter has leaked, one French Leclerc tank has leaked, and another Chinese APFSDS tank has leaked. The majority of them occurred within the last 12 months.

The sixth time:

www.polygon.com

Chinese military secrets leaked on a video game forum

It’s not the first time that War Thunder fans have leaked military secrets

Perhaps, it's starting to become the norm?

Pretty sure this thread is referencing the same incident.

www.resetera.com

Classified documents leak on War Thunder forums (again) [AGAIN]

previous threads https://www.resetera.com/threads/gamer-apparently-serving-in-royal-tank-regiment-of-uk-army-posted-classified-tank-documents-on-war-thunder-forums-to-help-make-game-more-accurate.457860/...
Is it the same?

The weapon in question is the DTC10-125, an anti-tank round fielded by the modern-day Chinese military.

Has anyone verified if those are legit documents from the military or is just people bullshitting to get their tanks buffed?

How, though? Are military secrets part of the research from devs or something?

I can see it. There is always at least one guy where winning an argument is his highest priority. I wonder how long until playing games like this is an automatic qualifier for access to classified stuff.

I know little about War Thunder, but I'm surprised this happens in that community as opposed to the Arma community, which is also based on real-actual military stuff.

If I had a nickel every time someone posted classified military intelligence on Warthunder forums, I would have three nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird it's happened thrice

I was expecting it to take longer before it happened again. All those dead spies and the solution all along was to make gamers argue and try to prove that their favorite virtual vehicle should be better than those "dumb devs" think.

this seems like the perfect spy opportunity for West intelligence agencies.

convince WT to put the j-20 in (but make it shit)

someone will leak Chinese manual to show it is actually better.

West now has specs for china's top end jet plane

If Monday's leak wasn't enough where someone posted classified information about the F-16, you got more. Today, an user on the Warthunder forums have posted multiple classified documents about the F-15 Strike Eagle and its multiple core functions. This marks the 14th time this happens:

2 Challenger 2
2 Eurocopter
3 different Chinese ones (APFSDS, Tank, and Heli)
1 Leclerc
1 PUMA
2 different South Korean vehicles
2 F-16
1 F-15E

Will it happen again? For sure! When will it happen? If this pattern keeps happening, you can expect something to leak pretty damn soon.
