Pokémon Scarlet and Violet nature guide

A Pokémon’s nature, or personality, actually affects its stats. This is how it’s worked for ages, and is no different in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

If you’re trying to make a team of powerhouse Pokémon, you’ll need to pay attention to their nature, but if it’s not an ideal fit, you can change it.

What are Pokémon natures?

These are your Pokémon personalities. You can see this info on the third page of a Pokémon’s summary.

Natures impact stats by, for the most part, increasing one stat at the expense of another. For example, Pokémon with Adamant natures gain more Attack, but won’t gain as much Special Attack. Because of this, Pokémon who specialize in physical attacks have an advantage if they’re of an Adamant nature.

You can see all the natures and their effects below. Note that five natures have no effect on stats, but we’ve keep them in the table for the sake of organization.

In previous games, Pokémon natures also affected what flavor food the Pokémon likes, but we haven’t noticed this having any impact in Scarlet and Violet.

How to change Pokémon natures in Scarlet and Violet

You can change natures by using mints, purchased from Chansey Supply for $20,000 each. Once used on the selected Pokémon, that Pokémon’s stats will change accordingly, though their nature will not change on their summary. It’s surprisingly simple, but you can accidentally use the same mint twice on one Pokémon, so make sure to keep track of which Pokémon’s natures you changed.

How to breed specific natures

If you’re trying to breed perfect Pokémon, you can pass down natures by giving an Everstone to the parent Pokémon with the nature you want. This will force the Pokémon offspring to have the same nature as that parent.
