On Tuesday, Bungie revealed Destiny 2: Beyond Light, the MMO’s third major expansion. Due to the COVID-19 and the lockdown, Bungie didn’t have its usual, documentary style reveal. Instead, game director Luke Smith and general manager Mark Noseworthy led players through various different features, showing some footage, and describing upcoming changes. Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light on Sept. 22 this year.

Here’s everything we know about Destiny 2: Beyond Light.

Europa

Eris Morn, The Drifter, and the mysterious Exo Stranger from the original Destiny, will lead players to Europa this fall. Europa is a small, icy moon of Jupiter, and a location cut from the original Destiny. Now, the strange trio have assembled on the moon to help players start fighting back against the invading Darkness.

Darkness subclasses

The biggest feature for Beyond Light is the ability to wield new abilities against the Darkness. Previously, Guardians have used abilities themed after the Arc, Solar, and Void elements. With Beyond Light, the Darkness will introduce an element called Stasis — based around manipulating time. And just like the game’s original three elements, players will be able to wield Stasis weapons and battle against enemies with Stasis attacks.

To defeat the new foes, players will stray from the Light — with the help of The Drifter and Eris Morn — to acquire new abilities unlike anything Guardians have used before. Bungie is still keeping quiet on how the Stasis subclasses will work, and will likely reveal each of the new abilities over the summer.

Raid on the Deep Stone Crypt

This fall, players will delve under Europa to tackle a new raid inside the Deep Stone Crypt. Originally rumored to be on Enceladus, a moon of Saturn, the Deep Stone Crypt is a mysterious location in the Destiny universe. It’s a subroutine that built the first Exo consciousness, and Exos still dream of it. Nobody knows exactly what it is, but players will find out this fall.

A new kind of Fallen

Beyond Light comes with a new type of Fallen enemy to fight. Eramis, calling herself the Fallen Kell of Darkness, seeks the Pyramid ships. Eramis and her Fallen have built a new empire on the surface of Europa, and players will clash with the new faction as they both seek the power of the Darkness.

Bungie will launch Destiny 2: Beyond Light for Google Stadia, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on Sept. 22. Next-generation versions of Destiny 2 and Beyond Light will launch on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X later this year.
