Respawn Promises ‘A Ton Of Titanfall’ In ‘Apex Legends’ Season 9

This article is more than 3 years old.

Respawn has raised a few eyebrows with a new roundtable panel where they stopped beating around the bush and said that yes, Titanfall content is in fact coming to Apex Legends in season 9, about a month away now.

Titanfall fans have been asking if Respawn would ever make Titanfall 3 after two beloved, but somewhat underperforming games before their smash hit Apex Legends, and they’ve said they had no plans to. But Respawn loves drawing connections between Apex and the world of Titanfall, and it appears that’s about to get a lot more explicit next season. For now, it’s subtle things like how Fuse’s “ready” sound is exactly the same one from Titanfall:

But now that’s about to change. A quote from the roundtable:

“You’re going to see a ton of Titanfall coming into [Apex] in one way or another. If you’re a Titanfall fan, hang on for Season 9.”

And another:

“Titanfall is a war story, Apex is life after the war - we’re trying to integrate Titanfall into that. We’re looking at what Titanfall means for this universe. It has lasting impacts that are going to become bigger and bigger.”

So, what exactly is happening here? I am seeing a lot of dedicated Apex fans freaking out that they don’t want Titanfall messing up a game and gameplay systems they already like. People are worried characters will now all be able to wall-run or Titans will start dropping on the map.

I…don’t think that’s what’s going on here. In order to facilitate major changes like wall-running or Titans, the entire map would have to be designed around accommodating that, which is clearly not the case for any of Apex’s maps so far.

Rather, my guess is that this is mostly story-based. As in, the next hero could be someone ported over from Titanfall (though honestly I can’t name a character from Titanfall), or the battle pass could have Titanfall-themed stuff in it. I could see them doing something like bringing in Titanfall weapons, rather than something much larger like Titans themselves. In short, no, I doubt fundamentally much will change about the gameplay of Apex, and this seems like it’s going to be more of a “theme” to the season, if anything.

We’ll see what happens. Apex Legends season 9 is supposed to start about a month from now, and Respawn will likely begin teasing it soon, as they always do. Prepare for uh, Titanfall, I suppose.
